Job Shadowing Day One
The first day of job shadowing I went to the “Open Gate Assisted Living Home”. I went with Jackee and Kendall. The minute I walked in I felt like I was at grandmothers house. The atmosphere was very warm and home-y. There was a big table in the middle and that was the dining table. We introduced our selves and the lady put us to work right away. The first lady that I got to see was named Betty. She had Alzheimer's. Alzheimer's disease is a loss of brain function that occurs with certain diseases. It was really sad seeing her because I didn’t know what to say to her. Every time that I asked her a question about her family, or all her pictures on her wall her response would be “I don’t know”. It made me appreciate my family and all the good times that I had with them. The visit was short but I tried to make it the best so I painted her nails purple and told her I would be coming back very soon to see her again. The next lady that I got to visit was named Thresa. I don’t know what was wrong with her but the owner told me that she was going crazy. She didn’t know much of what to do but at least she remembered stuff about her life. I painted her nails pink and she enjoyed telling me about where she grew up. The last lady that I visited was named April. Some of the staff members told me that she was absolutely loosing her mind, but to be honest I thought totally different. She was actually my favorite girl that I visited that day. She told me that she had a husband named Brahnlinn. All they would do in the winter was go skiing, and all they would do in the summer was sail the ocean. Maybe she was loosing her mind….i don’t know but if not then that was way cool and I hope I remember that stuff if I ever “loose my mind”.
Job Shadowing Day Two && Three
These two days were a little more difficult then I thought they would be. Jackee, Kendall and I went to “Rifle City Hall” to go shadow Mrs.Tarufelli. Mrs.Tarufelli is the head lady at the finance office in “Rifle City Hall”. A financial adviser, is a professional who renders financial services to individuals, businesses and governments. She had a lot of stuff for us to do. It is very important that everything gets filed in this office. If even one little piece of information gets lost, the office can be sued and Mrs.Tarufelli would loose her job. So we spent most of the time finding peoples files in the drawers and putting their papers with their information in the files. Another thing that is very important in a finance office is shredding papers. It is very important that they do this because if they just throw the paper away in the trash, and someone looks in the trash and finds someone else’s information then that could cause identity theft, which would not be good for that person…or the company. Another thing that we did for Mrs.Tarufelli was clean the office. Organization is the key in an office. You have to keep things in their place so when it comes down to it, you can find everything that you need and you don’t waste your time searching through everything just to find one piece of information. So we labeled folders, took out trash, recycled papers and cans, vacuumed the floors, wiped down surfaces, cleaned bathrooms, and decorated for the holidays. I don’t think that I can ever work at a finance office just because of the fact that there is too much work to do. I mean yeah its good to stay busy at work, but from the looks of it , it looks very stressful and I would not enjoy my job if it caused me stress.
Day Four
The last day of job shadowing, a bunch of girls from school, Jackee, Kendall, Julia , Mindi, and I went to Junction for the day. We visited two colleges out there. The first one that we visited Intellitec College. Intellitec focuses on three things. Health care, business, and technology. There are many career paths to choose from at this college. A Administrative Professional; which is basically helping someone out 24/7 in an office. A Dental Assistant, which is like the same thing as a Administrative Professional but its in a dentist’s office. A Automotive Technician, which is someone who knows about cars, and working on cars. A Medical Assistant, which is someone who works at a hospital and does all the easy work like for example; draw blood, checks temp, helps the doctor during operations, ect. ect. And last which is a Massage Therapist. A Massage Therapist is someone who knows about natural healing, and health. They also learn how to give amazing massages. We walked through the whole college and got to see everything. It was a really good college because it was small, and I feel like the smaller the schools are the better they are, because of the fact that you have more one on one time with your teachers. The next college that we went to was Colorado Mesa University. That is seriously my all time favorite college ever. We got to tour the whole college. There is many things that you can do at that school. But like all University’s its all about the sports. If I were to go to CMU I would work for a business degree so I can own a salon. Some of the things that I really love about CMU is the pool&gym, the new dorms, the space, the location, the people, and all the fun things there. CMU is definitely on my list of top colleges that I would love to go to.
In 2011 I also compleated 24 hours of community service at the Rifle Animal Shelter in Rifle, Colorado. I mostly did a lot of dog walking but also i picked up a lot of poop, cleaned kennels, prepared dog meals, and played and showed my love to many dogs and cats. It was very sad for me to see so many of these animals in and out of this shelter =(.
